Liquidation price calculator

Type the coin, the exchange, the leverage and the position size: the calculator gives the isolated-margin liquidation price at the maintenance margin rate we read from the exchanges daily, and how far it is.

The liquidation price is for isolated margin, by the formula Binance, Bybit, OKX and others publish: margin plus the unrealised result falls to the maintenance margin. Fees and funding charged on the way move it slightly; the exchanges' own calculators leave them out too.

How it counts

Liquidation comes when margin plus the unrealised result falls to the maintenance margin: position value × the maintenance rate − the tier's deduction.

For a long the liquidation price = (position value − margin − deduction) / (quantity × (1 − rate)); a short's has the signs reversed. Margin = position value / leverage, so the price must move about 1 / leverage less the maintenance rate against the position.

We read each perpetual's first-tier rate and maximum leverage from the exchanges daily. A large position falls into the next tier at a higher rate; the calculator warns you.

Example: a long of 10 ETH at $1,000 with $1,000 of margin (10× leverage) at a 0.4% maintenance rate. The liquidation price is $903.6145, about 9.6% below the entry.

FAQ

What do I enter to find the liquidation price?
The coin and the exchange (they fill in the entry price and the maintenance margin rate), the side, the leverage and the position size. The margin follows from the last two; the result is the price at which it is used up, and how far that is from the entry.
How far does the price have to fall before liquidation?
About 1 / leverage less the maintenance margin rate. At 10× and a 0.5% rate that is about 9.5%, at 50× about 1.5%. The calculator shows the exact distance beside the price.
Why can the exchange's liquidation price differ?
Exchanges work from the mark price, put large positions on higher margin tiers and charge fees and funding to the margin. For a position near liquidation, check the difference in the exchange's own terminal.
What about cross margin?
This is isolated margin: the position risks only its own margin. With cross margin the whole balance backs it, and the liquidation price depends on your other positions; the calculator does not count that.
